If Not for the Darkness

Some days I feel like water
That's all messed up inside
Seekin out my lowest level
So I can just curl up and hide
Cause life is so unkind
And sometimes it's unfair
I search for love and justice
But only find despair

My friends they barely know me
And strangers look like desert birds
Who would pick my carcass clean
For a few ill chosen words
So I find myself at home
Wonderin why I get these blues
And if you've ever felt this way
Well, I'll tell you the news

If not for the darkness, there'd be no light
If not for the wrong, you know there'd be no right
Lord, I'm only human, you know that's so
Today I'm feelin mighty blue, but I know
If not for the darkness, there'd be no light
If not for the darkness, there'd be no light

Some days I feel like ice
As frozen as can be
And people seem so cold
The way they look at me
Some days I think I'm gasoline
Waiting to explode
Some days I want to pack my bags
And head on down the road

Cause nothing seems to go my way
No matter how I try
And happy people having fun
They only pass me by
These blues they got a hold on me
That I can't seem to break
But there's one thing that I know
And so I'm here to say
